The Opportunity:
Data & Analytics Office (DAO)
The principal goal of the DAO is to transform HSBC into a truly data-led organisation and support the delivery and implementation of the Group Data Strategy. It will drive the delivery of the Group Data Strategy across the 3 pillars – Protect our data, Connect to our people, Unlock value for our customers. Starting with clear, unambiguous data definitions and culminating in trusted insight from well managed and controlled data, DAO plays a pivotal role as the data conscience for the Bank.
The responsibilities of the team include setting out, and subsequently holding Global Businesses and Functions accountable to follow a unified Data Strategy. This includes ensuring data is unambiguously defined, that it is controlled and managed to an appropriate level of quality, that Businesses/Functions comply with internal data policies and external data regulations, that data is sourced from appropriate (ideally “trusted”) sources.
The objectives of the team include playing an active role in coordinating the delivery of strategic data capabilities, providing effective monitoring and controls, consistently reporting and ensuring that the strategic future vision for data across the enterprise is realized.
Group Data Utility
The objective of Group Data Utility is to provide services around:
- Data Governance – Data definitions, Define Data Ownership, Data Standards for Master & Reference Data, and Document Data Quality Requirements etc.
- Data Insights & Innovation – Own the business data architecture strategy & governance for the Group, establish Data Lineage and Trusted sources framework, identify tooling and platform needs to comply with Group Data Management policy, and generate insights to evidence compliance.
- Data Quality Monitoring and Remediation – Data Profiling, applying data quality rules to data sets to identify and report bad data, work with the Business and IT teams to fix data quality issues etc.
The strategic vision of the Group Data Utility is to create a world class Data & Analytics Capability.

Job Family Classification and Description
Information Management job family is designed to cater towards all the data needs of business. It covers sourcing of data and building structured data lakes, designing data marts generating Business Insights and hosting data in Cloud. Key responsibilities also include but not limited to: creation of a robust data foundation and continuous update of these datasets, to support Analysis and reporting, identify opportunities for data monetization, leverage BI and Visualization tools to deliver key business insights and develop self-serve BI solutions to empower the business to make informed decisions. The team members embed agile delivery methodologies to continuously keep refining the data models using new and emerging techniques. This team also acts as a bridge between IT and the business stakeholders
- The role holder needs to demonstrate strong sense of ownership and accountability on projects through strong project management skills and regular communication with internal project managers and business stakeholders
- Working as an individual contributor, provide good recommendation / insights and enhance quality of output through tying the analysis back to Business trends, product knowledge and market dynamics
- Expertise in technical skills (SAS, SQL, VBA, Unix, Qlik, R, Python, CRM tools such as PEGA, other BI tools and Data technologies)
- Drives the optimization initiatives for existing processes.
- Understand personal training needs and take initiative to follow through personal development plan in conjunction with line manager

Process Efficiency and Controls
- Oversee the development of cost-effective code for assigned projects. Manages the automation of repetitive programming steps to reduce the need for manual intervention. Take charge in the maintenance of generated programs, queries and profiles to make certain organizational information resources are leveraged efficiently.
- Sets up QA/QC framework and ensures adherence and constant improvements.
- Understands policies/standards and assists leadership team to translate and implements the same into operational governance framework for the team.
Job Description (DAO – Group Data Management):
- The role holder will report to the India Lead for Data Management within Data and Analytics Office (DAO). He / She will help execute services defined under the Group Data Utility service catalogue for one or more work stream and ensure effective implementation of Data Management Framework across regions. This includes operating a Data Management pillar within DAO while partnering with IT teams to prioritise and meet business requirements.
- The role holder will support the India Work Stream to engage stakeholders & SMEs from Businesses and Functions to understand and assess regulatory & HSBC’s Data Management policy requirements. The role holder will be responsible for analysis and documentation of data management best practices, including data standards, lineage, quality & process level controls; and determining trusted source for critical data sets. The role holder is expected to apply and uphold HSBC’s standards and guidelines at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse and translate business needs into long-term data solutions
- Create and govern a central Business Data Glossary used across the enterprise
- Deliver conceptual and logical data model using HSBC’s Metadata methodology
- Documentation of data standards, Business and Data Quality Rules
- Support HSBC’s Data Management Framework through data governance services
- Build self-service visualization capabilities using RDF Knowledge Graph to derive insights
- Advice business and IT stakeholders using Knowledge Graph to establish Lineage and determine Trusted Sources
- Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements for metadata governance and coordinate meetings with SMEs / Data Governors
- On-board critical data sets to establish Governance framework using group strategic tools – COLLIBRA
- Develop, maintain and optimize meta-models for data supporting key processes
- Coordinate engagement with Business and IT teams to provide support on analysis and documentation of metadata
Requirements
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from reputed university with specialization in numerical discipline and concentration in computer science, information systems or other engineering specializations.
- Knowledge of Conceptual/Logical Data Modelling, exposure to Data Governance, Metadata Management, Data Quality assessment and controls implementation using Collibra.
- Should possess advanced knowledge of Data Modelling and Metadata management
- Understanding of Graph Database / Knowledge Graph is desirable.
- Detail knowledge of data management framework – data governance, data privacy, business architecture and data quality.
- Strong analytical skills with business analysis aptitude.
- Ability to comprehend intricate and diverse range of business problems and analyse them with limited or complex data and provide a feasible solution framework. Experience on working on Data/Information Management projects of varying complexities.
Functional requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations in a Global Bank.
- Understanding of accounting principles, data flows and regulatory landscape – BCBS239, B3R, CCAR, IFRS9 etc.
- Familiarity of implementing data management with one of the following frameworks – DAMA / TOGAF / FIBO / EDM
